Who I Am Matters

 Describe where you come from?

I am from Rancho Palos Verdes, CA, its about a 40 min drive from USC. Both of my parents are immigrants from Mexico, and was born in the City of Angels.

Tell me where you are going?

In about an hour I will be going to get some dinner at my local Red Lobster. In a year I will hopefully be working as a consultant. In the next five years, I really don't know, maybe I will land a role as an actor, or continue to work at Artimis Prodcutions.

Tell me how you plan to get there?

I plan on getting there by taking it one step at a time, putting one step in front of the other. I am of the belief that we all have a purpose and calling and its our job to figure it out as we go. I just have to continue to give it my all in everything that I do and trust the process.

How are you LIKE your parents/ how are you UNLIKE your parents?

My parents have passed on their work ethic, drive, passion, motivation, and love.

I lack the wisdom that comes from struggles they each faced in life.

Have you developed your own expectations for yourself, or if you were honest, would you say you're operating under someone else's expectations?

I have definitely developed my own expectations for myself, but it has been influenced by the standards my parents and those around me have set.  My parents have been very supportive of my choices and my aspirations, and have placed me in a position to be successful in anything that I do. If I fail the fault will only be own, hence the pressure I feel is my own. It is not a bad thing and I in fact thrive off of it.

Role Model?

Denzel Washington, he has a strong passion for life and his acting career. He failed many times early in life, but he says that "if you don't fail many times, then you aren't even trying"

What wild animal do you connect with?

I love lions! When I was a little kid, my mom gave me a toy lion and it was my favorite. It was made of a hard plastic and I still would cuddle with it at night, because I believed it would protect me from Chucky the killer doll!

Finally, some big cat news that has nothing to do with Joe Exotic or Carole Baskin!

Describe a significant childhood encounter with a tree or plant.

There was a big tree at my local park that I would always climb as a child. It was my fortress, my kingdom, it was where I reigned as King of the park.

  1. Hi Angel,

I really liked your blog post. My parents also immigrated here a long time ago except from Iran not Mexico so a little different haha. Also, I feel an influence from my parents on my expectations of myself just like you said. They put me in the situation that I am in so it is up to me to decide what I want to do with it, so there is that added to it too. Thanks for sharing!

  2. Hey Angel,
Omg, I just realized your name is Angel and you were born in the City of Angels, was that intentional? I haven't been to a Red Lobster in years, but I remember looking into the lobster tank feeling so sad because they were all going to be eaten. My seven year-old self wanted to break the glass and let all of them be free. Did you choose your own lobster to eat? Also, their cheddar biscuits are amazing and deserve an Oscar. It's interesting that you cuddled with something that was extremely hard. Doesn't seem like the most comfortable, but at least it made you happy.
