Random Post #1 Powerlifitng   Growing up I was always in to playing sports. I played almost every sport from football, soccer, baseball, basketball, boxing, and even gave hockey a try (it only lasted about week). I would say I was decent in every sport that I played. I never was this athletic freak, and I wasn’t the biggest, but I would say I had speed. As I got older though I no longer had speed as an advantage, because the competition I started facing had size, power, and speed. After high school I didn’t play in organized sports and instead turned to going to the gym. I mainly went just to be fit and look good, but my sophomore year at USC that all changed. I discovered the sport of powerlifting and joined the Trojan Barbell Club.         What is Powerlifting?   It is a sport that focuses on strength, that is tested out with three main lifts: barbell squat, bench press, and deadlift. You get three attempts on each lift,...

Putting the Rabbit in the Hat        Summary   Putting the Rabbit in the Hat, gives you an inside look, into the life and thoughts and emotions of Brian Cox. Brian was born on June 1, 1946, and grew up in Dundee, Scotland. He had a tough childhood; he lost his father early in his life and his mother struggled with her mental health. His older brother Charlie left for the military soon after, leaving Brain and his sisters. His love for cinema was nourished by his mother, who would take him to the movies and put him in acting classes. His first true love was the theater, acting on stage. He loved the character development that would happen on stage and the community. Not everything was roses a...

Lights, Camera, Action……….   Unless you are on Stage!   The differences of acting on stage vs. on camera, and how to do both     By: Angel Perez   “Are you a different animal, and the same beast?” Ah yes, the famous wise words from Kobe Bryant, the legend himself, in his memorable Nike Kobe System commercial. This is the question that Kanye West (another legend) was asked, leaving him utterly perplexed. He was not the only one left confused of course, this question has left many scientists, philosophers, and theologians searching for the answer. “How could one be a different animal, and the same beast?” If you have not seen the 2012 commercial, I highly recommend you pop on over to YouTube and look it up.     Now I know you must be wondering, “what does this quote have to do with acting on stage vs. on camera?”     Being a theater minor has allowed me to view this question as an analog...

Putting The Rabbit in the Hat Post One

This new year I made a resolution that I was going to try to read at least two books a month. Looking back maybe I was being too optimistic, but this assignment helps somewhat keeping me on pace. Looking at the list of books, All the Young Men, caught my eye because it’s about Brian Cox. I love the show Succession, and Brian Cox is brilliant in it. All I knew about him was that he was a well-established Scottish actor in the industry, that dabbled in Shakespeare early in his career. I am a theater minor and love everything about the world of acting. I find it interesting to learn about the upbringings of different actors, how each of his or her life experiences helped shaped their careers.   After being about halfway through the book, I can say without a doubt I picked the right book. Brian Cox had a rough childhood and faced many hardships early in his life. He lost his father at an early age, who was remembered as a local shop owner that gave back to...
