The Final Days at USC
Time flies by when you’re having fun! These last couple of years at the University of Southern California, have been a dream come true for me. USC was my dream school ever since I can remember, and I told myself that one day I was going to be a Trojan. I still remember the day that I found out that I had been accepted into USC, and now graduation is only about a month away. For my last random post, I want to reflect on my time at USC and talk about what I have learned and touch upon some of my highlights.
In May, I will be graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a minor in theater. Looking back, I am happy with the path I selected. I was able to experience two completely different fields. One benefit is that I was also able to take different concepts that I learned from each and I was able to apply them to one another. Early on I realized that for Business classes I was going to have to do a lot of presentations. I remember that my freshmen year, I would always get very nervous whenever I had to present. Thinking about it, it’s pretty ironic, given that I was taking acting classes. Well over time my confidence in my acting eventually translated over into my presentation skills. In my theater classes I also learned how to break down a script, to analyze a scene and to read between the lines. The skills I acquired in my theater courses I was also able to apply over into my business classes. In my business communication classes, they place emphasis on using different channels of communication and to use discretion when deciding on an approach. The process is somewhat like when I am determining the way I am going to say my lines in a scene. Tonality and delivery of my lines can have different effects on the mood of the scene. I felt I got to experience the best of both worlds I was able to be analytical and creative at the same time. My sophomore year in a day I would go from my econ class to a clowning acting class. I grateful for the productions that I was a part of at USC, it was a joy performing in front the Trojan family. Last semester I was in The Pliant Girls, and I got to work alongside a talented and loving cast.
The best moments I had at USC were the least expected. I’m going to miss the days when I would have nothing planned after classes to suddenly turning into going to back-to-back parties and ending up in Hollywood at a random shawarma joint. I definitely can’t forget to mention Wednesday nights at the 90 (901 Bar & Grill). The wings at 90 are top tier, and the vibes are immaculate. I love all the friendships I have made along the way. I’ve meet people from all over the world and they have all played a part in helping me become the individual I am today. The staff and instructors I had were all great and I love that most went beyond the just the material and shared life lessons with students.
Right now, in this moment I am forever grateful for the opportunities USC has provided me with. Graduation is going to be bittersweet, and I am going to enjoy every single day until then, even the sleepless nights that I will spend studying. To those that are graduating this semester I congratulate you all! To those Trojans that still have some time at this wonderful school, continue to FIGHT ON!

Hello Angel,
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome that you were able to take both the fields that you were interested in and apply skills learned in them to each other. I have actually never been to the 9-0 so I have made intentions to go there before the semester ends. I didn't realize that people ate food there but I will keep that in mind, haha. Congratulations on graduation and best of luck in the future.

Angel!
ReplyDeleteHah! I loved this. I wish I ran into you at the 9O at one point but that opportunity may have passed now. I think it is so cool that your acting skills fed into your ability to present. I also get quite nervous during presenting so maybe I will look into an acting class for my last two semesters here at SC. You are a cool ass dude man and hope our paths cross again later down the line.

Hello Angel,
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing with us about your experience at USC. A lot of your stories I can relate to, but I am only a junior. It's unfortunate that everyone's time at USC has to come to an end and I bet a lot of people wish that they can get the experience over and over. I am also grateful for my experience here at USC and luckily I have one more year, so I will definitely make the most of it. Once again, thanks for sharing and fight on!

Hey Angel,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your post. I felt like I really got to know you and your experiences at USC better! I had no idea you had a minor in theater, and now I wish I could see one of your productions! I haven't seen a play put on by USC, but I bet they're really great. I wish you all of best post-grad, and I really enjoyed working with you in my group this semester. I hope to look back on my college experiences a similar way that you do one day.
Best,
Brooke
